Twelve-year-old Border Collie, Kenzie, is now back on all paws after receiving expert treatment from the team here at Kentdale when he became weak and wobbly on his back legs.
Our veterinary surgeon Joe Higgins, an ECVS Resident in small animal surgery, took charge of Kenzie’s case and the beloved family pet underwent initial tests and an MRI scan.
The findings were unusual and the images were sent off for various opinions from imagers and neurologists, with Kenzie ultimately being diagnosed with discospondylitis, an infection of the spine.
Following his diagnosis, Kenzie underwent treatment with our orthopaedics and veterinary physiotherapy teams, in which we combined a course of antibiotics with six months of physio and hydrotherapy.
We’re delighted to say that thanks to our multidisciplinary approach, Kenzie is now fully recovered – much to the relief of his grateful owners, who are now able to take him back up to Great Mell Fell to explore!
His owners said: “We never dared to think that Kenzie would ever be up in the fells again after all his problems last year, especially the final spinal problems that resulted in him being unable to walk properly.
“In typical Kenzie style, he has overcome all the odds and is back enjoying Great Mell Fell. He can’t manage the real high tops, of course, but up to two hours is achievable for him now.
“We are so grateful to all of the team at Kentdale, the effort and time everyone took to avoid spinal surgery and for the expert physio, he received.
“I’m really not sure we would have put him through another operation. Thank you to the whole team at Kentdale. He is now living his best life at 12 years old!”
