A referral takes place if your normal vet decides that they cannot provide the level of expertise or facilities required to treat your pet in the best way possible. Alternatively, the referral process can be started at the request of an owner who wishes to have treatment performed by a Vet with more experience in a particular field.
Normally the first opinion vet contacts us to start the referral process, and then sends the case notes, X-rays etc electronically. We are asked by the referring vet either to contact owners directly or to wait for contact from the owners
After the pet has been treated, we then pass them back to your vet for any future care required. We ensure your pet receives the specialist care it requires using our specialist equipment and faculties.
If you are not sure as to why your pet is being referred, we are happy to help you understand or alternatively you can speak to your regular vet.
