FUNDRAISING NURSE DUO TAKING ON GREAT NORTH RUN

Two of our kind-hearted nurses are putting their best feet forward to take on the Great North Run.

Registered Veterinary Nurse Lauren Bowe and Student Veterinary Nurse Ailsa Richardson will both be tackling the famous half-marathon course in September for two good causes.

Lauren will be running in aid of Dementia UK, while Ailsa will be striding out for mental health charity Mind.

Lauren said: “Dementia UK is something I feel very passionate about, holding a close connection to the disease as it has affected my family. I want to help raise as much money as possible to allow for the training of healthcare specialists to ensure a quality of life is maintained for all, and those living with Dementia do so with the care and dignity they deserve.

I have signed up to the Great North Run 2023, which will be my second half-marathon and my first time running the 13.1miles from Newcastle-Upon-Tyne to South Shields. I am excited by the challenge and determined to make everyone proud, so any donations will be gratefully received!”

Ailsa added: “It’s my first ever half-marathon and I’m supporting Mind because the services they provide need to continue and grow in order to help as many people as possible. It’s an amazing mental health charity that supports and empowers people to understand their mental health through connecting and changing minds.

The charity has helped so many people, including myself and many of my friends, but there is still a long way to go before everyone has access to mental health support.

One in four of us experience a mental health condition in any given year and Mind provides information and support for people whilst also improving the public attitude towards mental health.

Incredibly 21.4 million people have accessed information from Mind and 128,000 people used their helpline in 2021-22. This shows how valuable and important it is that this resource remains available to everyone so any donations would be greatly appreciated!”
