Meet Coco, a lively 16-month-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, who visited Kentdale Referrals with a three-month history of left hindlimb lameness.
Coco was referred to our orthopaedic service, and his care was led by RCVS and ECVS Specialist in Small Animal Surgery, Toby Gemmill.
Following the diagnosis of a grade 2/4 medial patellar luxation, a CT scan was carried out to assess the extent of limb deformity and assist with surgical planning.
Surgery was undertaken to stabilise the patella within the trochlear groove and ensure correct patellar tracking and quadriceps alignment. This was achieved using a tibial crest transposition and soft tissue balancing technique – performed as part of one our Fixed Price Orthopaedic Surgery Packages.
The procedure was straightforward, taking around 40 minutes, and Coco made an excellent recovery. At his six-week post-operative check-up, he was sound and given the all-clear to return to more active exercise.
We’re delighted to see Coco doing so well and back to his energetic self.
