{"id":506,"date":"2023-01-31T16:28:46","date_gmt":"2023-01-31T16:28:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kentdalevets.co.uk\/news\/?p=506"},"modified":"2026-03-02T13:11:09","modified_gmt":"2026-03-02T13:11:09","slug":"rescue-cat-star-is-over-the-moon-following-rare-double-knee-surgery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kentdalevets.co.uk\/news\/rescue-cat-star-is-over-the-moon-following-rare-double-knee-surgery\/","title":{"rendered":"RESCUE CAT STAR IS OVER THE MOON FOLLOWING RARE DOUBLE KNEE SURGERY"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A rescue cat is back on all paws following specialist surgery here at Kentdale to treat a rare double kneecap dislocation.<\/p>\n<p>Star, a tabby cat thought to be 10 years old, needed intricate surgery on both her knees to prevent her kneecaps repeatedly \u2018popping out\u2019 of their grooves.<\/p>\n<p>Grateful owner Stephanie Bamber, from Preston, who is Business Relationship Manager at our hospital, is urging cat owners to have their pets checked for any knee issues if they show signs of discomfort when walking.<\/p>\n<p>Stephanie said: \u201cCats can hide pain very well, even for a number of years, and could be suffering with a dislocated kneecap without showing more obvious signs of discomfort.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI first realised something was very wrong with Star when she lay down in her basket and wouldn\u2019t put her leg down. She was clearly in great pain.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would urge fellow cat owners to seek veterinary advice for their pet, even if they simply flinch when putting weight down on their legs, as they could be hiding something serious and painful.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile Star is a house cat, having fully functioning limbs is especially important for outdoor cats who quickly need to escape any signs of danger, such as a car approaching them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s looking forward to playing again with her cat sister and dog brother, proving that cats and dogs can happily get along together!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The operation to repair Star\u2019s knees was successfully performed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kentdalevets.co.uk\/about-us\/meet-the-team\/graham-hayes\">Graham Hayes<\/a>, RCVS specialist in small animal surgery \u00a0here at Kentdale, which is accredited by the International Society of Feline Medicine (ISFM) as a cat-friendly clinic.<\/p>\n<p>Toby Gemmill, Specialist in Small Animal Surgery and Kentdale Managing Director, said: \u201cI would echo Stephanie\u2019s advice to cat owners if they see any lameness in their pet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA veterinary investigation will allow identification of any underlying issues and the most appropriate treatment to be given, be that medication, physiotherapy, or an operation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-508 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kentdalevets.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Star-2-225x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.kentdalevets.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Star-2-225x300.jpeg 225w, https:\/\/www.kentdalevets.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Star-2-768x1024.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/www.kentdalevets.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Star-2-1152x1536.jpeg 1152w, https:\/\/www.kentdalevets.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Star-2.jpeg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Star, a 10-year-old tabby, has undergone surgery here at Kentdale to cure a rare double dislocation of her knees.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A rescue cat is back on all paws following specialist surgery here at Kentdale to treat a rare double kneecap dislocation.
