{"id":382,"date":"2022-02-15T15:42:04","date_gmt":"2022-02-15T15:42:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kentdalevets.co.uk\/news\/?p=382"},"modified":"2022-08-02T13:27:23","modified_gmt":"2022-08-02T12:27:23","slug":"sustainability-efforts-rewarded-with-bronze-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kentdalevets.co.uk\/news\/sustainability-efforts-rewarded-with-bronze-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Sustainability efforts rewarded with bronze award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We\u2019re delighted to have received a prestigious environmental award following an eco-friendly campaign to cut emissions, waste and costs.<\/p>\n<p>The team here at Kentdale has recently celebrated a bronze award from Investors in the Environment after a concerted sustainability push.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Investors in the Environment (iiE) is a national environmental accreditation scheme designed to help organisations reduce their impact on the environment.<\/p>\n<p>RVN and sustainability lead Kirsty Powell has spearheaded our sustainability push and said: \u201cThe experience has been very eye-opening, and I could not be prouder of my team of eco-warriors!<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTogether, we have implemented incredible changes, and I\u2019m lucky to work with like-minded colleagues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt really has been a team effort and a fantastic commitment to create and implement an eco-friendly policy to reduce our environmental impact.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One of our first green initiatives was the introduction of reusable scrub hats for all operating theatre staff, saving around 1,600 disposable hats a year from becoming medical waste.<\/p>\n<p>We even secured the hats from a supplier that donates part of its income from each order to designated charities!<\/p>\n<p>Other key projects that saw us achieve our bronze award include eradicating the use of nitrous oxide throughout the hospital and removing plastic trays and bowls from surgical packs.<\/p>\n<p>Sharon Murtagh, hospital director, said: \u201cThe team at Kentdale recognises that businesses influence the environment in many ways, and that\u2019s why we are committed to the constant improvement of our environmental performance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are proud to be working with iiE, and achieving this bronze status is a great reward for the team\u2019s combined efforts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are now already looking at new ways to make further improvements to build on this award and achieve the iiE\u2019s silver award.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Investors in the Environment annual audit consists of assessing five key areas of an organisation\u2019s Environmental Management System (EMS). These include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Environmental policy<\/li>\n<li>Resource management and monitoring<\/li>\n<li>Progress against targets<\/li>\n<li>Action planning, including social\/environmental projects<\/li>\n<li>Communication<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We\u2019re delighted to have received a prestigious environmental award following an eco-friendly campaign to cut emissions, waste and costs.
